Thanks, Loral Lee - Totally agree. Don't hesitate keeping all those irons in the fire - simply cut those goals into smaller more achievable pieces. Then as you move forward, if you stil feel overwhelmed - give yourself permission to set them aside and rethink them in the future, or throw them out if you no longer feel passionate about attaining them...it's all good! :)

I tend to be a Type A, with so many irons in the fire that I get overwhelmed, then discouraged, thinking everything should be done yesterday and not really having a clue how to do half of what I want to do. So, another reason to release some of our goals is to replace them with one major goal: BALANCE! Additionally, if we determine that our goal is coming from our head (something we should do) instead of from our heart (something we're passionate about), it might be helpful to let it go.

Vanessa, so glad you found benefit - because of the nature of our business and the services we provide, many times our clients are extremely busy (why they need us), so it may not be something that's top of mind for them as we work together. Finding ways to remind them, or even rewarding them for their kind referrals is a great way to grow your business with already qualified prospects! Good luck...

This is extremely helpful advice, Jeannine! I am a frequent refer-er but have noticed that for the number of referrals I dole out, there aren't as many coming back my way. Asking for them specifically is, quite honestly, an angle that I had not incorporated into my routines. They shall be implemented right away!

Thank you so much!

Thanks Suji, I totally agree, and belive that's why I keep clients for years and years....some (3) have been with me for almost 15-years now! I have to believe that attaching importance to building a close reltionship with them is key in keeping them engaged. ;)

I strongly agree with you, Jeannine. Building a good relationship with your client is very vital in growing your business. As virtual assistants, we should not only good in doing our task but importantly, we should also have a good attitude in dealing with our clients, our partners.

Thanks, Matt - I totally agree - certainly there are many other issues relating to this topic, I never intended for you to think I was detailing them all! ;) Thanks again for sharing your thoughts and ideas. Greatly appreciated.

Informative article. But there's an issue not covered in your article: Repeating or informing your customer about negative information of a competitor usually alerts them to start looking further into their company. Bottom line: Talking negatively about the competiton is essentially advertising for the competition. The harsher you are, the more reason your customer may look at someone they did not consider.

Ethics and morals are building blocks for a solid company. Slandering (whether true or false) will ultimately lead you o your demise and is best left to politicians.
